Tilapia( GIFT),  Genetically Improved Farmed Tilapia, has been considered as the Food fish of the 21st century and is popularly known as aquatic chicken. Tilapia is the second most farmed species globally but in India it is not farmed to that extent commercially. The genetically improved farmed tilapia (GIFT) is proven to be an idea culture species for India. It has got a high export potential to USA, African countries and Japan. It has a good market demand in Eastern Indian states.
