Mithun Farming

Mithun (Bos frontalis) is considered to be the domesticated form of wild gaur (Bos gaurus). It is believed to be domesticated more than 8000 years ago. It is mainly found in the four North-Eastern hilly states of India i.e. Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram and Manipur. Mithun is an extremely efficient grazer on steep hilly slopes compared to other animals. It is primarily reared as meat animal and is highly preferred among the tribal people of North Eastern India.
