Assam's first transgender judge and also a Social Activist

Swati belonging to a community that is marginalised and discriminated against, she has never let anyone pull her down by any means. She always took stand for her rights, since childhood. She completed a course in Comapany Secretary and Law from the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) and Gauhati University Law College respectively. She became Assam's first transgender judge in 2018 and country's third after West Bengal and Maharashtra appointed their first transgender judze each. Her appointment comes as a relief to over 5000 transgenders living in Assam, they have a new hope in the form of Swati Bidhan Baruah. She came in news during the time of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), when the internet services were shut down in the state and she faught a case on it at the High Court.
