Doctor is a professional, skilled in the science of medicine who is trained and licensed to treat people who are ill or hurt. To take up the role of a doctor, candidates are required to successfully complete an M.B.B.S. programme after which aspiring are required to undergo a residency programme of a minimum duration of 2 years to acquire a license to provide independent medical care and consultation services to patients to restore their health. They can also opt for postgraduate degree programmes M.S. or M.D. right after successful completion of an M.B.B.S. programme. They may specialise in anatomy, cardiology, neurology or other related specialisations.
