Surgical Cotton

Surgical cotton is made from well carded cotton fibres. It is bleached to pure white colour, softened and freed from pieces of thread, leaf, shell, fibre, dirt and other organic matters. A decent quality absorbent cotton is characterized by its uniform quality and staple fibres having average length more than 1.5 cm. The cotton should be chemically inert and soft to give maximum protection and should not cause irritation. These properties can be achieved by manufacturing the product as per standard method of manufacture. The raw cotton is processed by series of steps that render the cotton deliquescent in character and free from external impurities required to be fit for use in surgical dressings and personal hygiene. It is principally utilized in the nursing homes, hospitals, clinics and also at home.
