Assam Lemon

Assam lemon or ‘Kaji Nemu’, is one of the largest commercial fruit crop produced in Assam. Varieties found are: Assam Lemon (Local), Gol Nemu, Kaji Nemu, Nepali Oblong. This fruit crop is very much important part of Assamese cuisines. This fruit crop is grown all round the year. ‘Kaji Nemu’ have received the GI tag in 2019 because of its uniqueness. This fruit is larger in shape than the usual lemons found in the market. Assam Lemon juice is refreshing beverage in the hot summer and satisfies the thirst. This fruit is also used to make pickles as well as in garnishing curries and other dishes. This is also one of the easiest crop to be grown in the northeastern region and can bring glory to the farmers and entrepreneurs. In 2021 June, a huge amount of ‘Kaji Nemu’ was exported to London from Guwahati.
