An aromatic spice with warm and sweet flavour, Cinnamon or Dalchini is native to Sri Lanka. In India, largest producer of Dalchini is Meghalaya with 99.4% share. India exports cinnamon worth $ 7,140,000 per year and is among the top ten exporters in the world. The cinnamon variety that grows in Meghalaya is cassia cinnamon. This spice comes from an evergreen tree, later on the bark is peeled and laid to dry and then it is rolled to produce cinnamon stick. This spice has many health benefits like it contains antioxidants with anti-inflammatory effects, reduces blood pressure, lowers the risk of diabetes, relieves digestive discomfort etc. and also used in various curries and cooking dishes. Cultivation of Cinnamon can bring huge profit to the farmers as it is in huge demand throughout the world and also the process of cultivating and harvesting can be done easily.
