Ginger

Ginger production in India accounts for over 1.88 million metric tons. Saudi Arabia, Morocco, USA, United Kingdom and Bangladesh are the major importers of ginger from India. In Northeast India, ginger is produced at a highest rate in Meghalaya followed by Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh. Varieties of ginger produced in this region are Nadia, Poona, Varada and Thingpui (local). Black ginger grown in Mizoram has medicinal properties and cultivated for commercial purpose in huge amount. Ginger is sold as dry ginger, ginger powder, ginger oil and oleoresin. Ginger helps in boosting immunity and also used to treat many illness. Ginger is used in pickle, tea and also can be used as seasoning in many Indian dishes. Ginger also helps in digestion. Ginger is an important herb for health as well as can bring success to the economy of northeast region due to high demand and easy to grow nature.
