Large Cardamom

The Portuguese invader Vasco Da Gama visited India in 1489 AD and discovered the spices of India and that was the beginning of exports of spices from India. India is the world’s largest producer, consumer and exporter of spices in the world. In April 2021, India exported  spices of US$ 398.50 million and according to International Organization of Standardization (ISO), India produces about 75 of 109 varieties listed by them. Northeast India is known for its varieties in spices like ‘Bhoot Jolokia’ cultivated in Assam, Nagaland, Manipur. Ing Makhir Ginger and Lakadong Turmeric of Meghalaya, Large Cardamom of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh etc. Spices cultivation can bring lots of profit in the market.
