Podina (Mint)

Mints belong to the genus Mentha, in the family Labiatae (Lamiaceae). Their oils and derived aroma compounds are traded world-wide.The four most commonly cultivated species are: Japanese Mint/Menthol Mint (M.arvensis),  Peppermint (M.piperita), Spearmint (M. spicata) and Bergamot mint (M. citrata). Podina or Japanese mint is a perennial aromatic herb. The oil and its principal aroma-compound menthol have cooling and gastro-stimulant properties, for which it is used in pharmaceuticals, food flavour, confectionery, cosmetics, beverages and related industries.
