Thyme

A native herb from Southern Europe, Spain and Italy, Thyme is also grown in Western Himalayas and Nilgiris. Thyme is also known as ‘Banajwain’ in Hindi. It is used for both culinary and medicinal purposes. Thyme oil is used for treating bronchitis, cough, diarrhea, stomach ache, arthritis. Also used in many industries like Pharmaceutical, Detergent, Insecticides etc. Growing this herb is very easy with less requirement of water and also it is easy to care and can be grown in pots, containers, backyards, greenhouse, polyhouse even in hydroponic system. Fresh leaves, flowers and dried leaves are also the usable part of this herb.  Dried leaves are used in Tea, skin lotions and others. Commercially Thyme oil has raised much attention during last two decades. This plant is perennial and gives good yields from the second until the sixth year.
